Kitsap County Deputies responded to a call on the 2600 block of Lincoln Avenue SE at around 2:25 a.m. When they arrived they found two cars that looked like they’d been involved in an accident and a bloodied 50-year-old Port Orchard man.
Apparently a 20 year old man was driving with his 21 year old male passenger when they smashed into the side of the 50 year old man’s car.
The suspect, not being able to drive away, approached the victim he’d just hit and explained that he didn’t want to involve police because he already had a warrant for his arrest, Deputies said.
The 50-year-old victim insisted on calling police. Instead of residing to his fate the suspect decided to lash out, head-butted him, punched him several times, and ran away according to reports.
The suspect ran to a nearby apartment building where deputies promptly arrested him.
After the arrest, the suspect has refused to talk about what happened, authorities said.
The 21-year-old Port Orchard man who had been in the suspect’s car during the injury accident was at the Harrison Medical Center clinic in South Kitsap, where he was being treated for a head injury. Port Orchard Police questioned him before he was released by the clinic. The man confirmed that the suspect had been the man driving the car when the accident happened.
The suspect was taken to Kitsap County jail on suspicion of felony hit and run and third-degree assault. Bail was set at $50,000.
This is clearly the actions of a desperate and disturbed individual. That is why when authorities advise on what to do after a car accident they say that if the car is not on fire or in some way a detriment to the occupants that they should stay in the car. Walking into the roadway or confronting the other individual can many times be more detrimental than the actually car crash itself.
If you or someone you know has gotten into an injury accident or has been victim to a hit and run or road rage incident it is imperative that you find legal council right away. Call Phillips Webster for a consultation.
