Head-On Collision in Lacey Kills 1, Causes Serious Personal Injuries; Speeding Suspected

Head-On SUV AccidentSpeeding is a massive problem, particularly amongst males between the ages of 15 and 35. There just seems to be this propensity to drive aggressively or feel the thrill of testing the limits of the nerves and the machine. The problem is, it puts every person around the area in danger as the driver could just as easily kill a pedestrian as they could lose control and kill someone by driving through their living room. For one speeding driver last night, he almost killed an baby, but instead killed himself.

The accident happened just after 2:30 am last night on Nisqually Cut-off Road, which runs parallel to Interstate 5, and Martin Way East just north of the town of Lacey near Olympia.

Washington State Patrol troopers say that a 27 year-old man was driving his SUV at a high rate of speed when he took a corner way too wide, sending him into oncoming traffic, where he slammed head-on into another SUV containing two women and a 1 year-old girl in a car seat.

The impact sent the car containing the women and baby down an embankment where they came to a rest.

The speeding driver was not wearing a seatbelt causing him to be ejected from the vehicle and landing in the road where he pass away. Troopers did not specify if he died instantly or died after they arrived at the scene.

The 27 year-old female driver, from Olympia, was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center with serious personal injuries. Hospital officials were not specific on her condition, but said she is expected to survive.

The 1 year-old girl and a 22 year-old woman were taken to local St. Peter’s hospital as a precaution to get checked out. Hospital officials say that they are going to be fine and have been since released.

Investigators are running a toxicology screen on the deceased man to see if drugs or alcohol were also a factor.

Our condolences go out to the family and friends of the deceased. We hope that the woman in the hospital recovers without any lasting physical or mental affects from this accident.

This wholly preventable SUV accident shows that not following the rules of the road not only puts others in danger, but also the driver. We ask that if you have been drinking, are feeling severe emotional anguish, or have been taking prescription medication, that you please do not get behind the wheel of a car.
