Yaz Lawsuit Attorneys for Harmful Side Effects and Injuries

Compensation for Dangerous Side Effects of Yaz Birth Control

Lawyers for Victims of Kidney Damage, Gallbladder Removal, Pulmonary Embolism, DVT, and Strokes

Yaz hit the market with a high degree of promise, but it was eventually linked to reports of the development of serious Yaz side effects. Below you’ll find information regarding how Yaz came to be, how it works, the Yaz side effects that have been reported and finally how you should proceed if you or someone you love has been harmed by Yaz side effects.

A Brief History and Description of Yaz Birth Control

Yaz is manufactured by Bayer Healthcare, and it was originally produced as a follow-up product to Yasmin, a similar birth control medication that is also manufactured by Bayer Healthcare. Yaz is largely similar to Yasmin, although its chemical makeup is slightly different and was formulated to provide those who needed a different formula to achieve the birth control success they desired.

Yaz was originally approved for marketing, sale and distribution in the United States by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2006, and it hit the market with a high degree of publicity given the relative success of Yasmin. Yaz works by releasing two different hormones in the the female’s system, and these hormones are also the active ingredients of Yaz. These hormones are known as drospirenone and ethinylestradiol.

Specifically, these hormones perform the following tasks:

  1. Prevent ovulation in general
  2. Provide slight changes in the woman’s reproductive system such that the walls of the cervix and uterus are not able to accept a fertilized egg should that possibility arise

The purported functions of Yaz turned out to be accurate after it was used for a time, and other perceived benefits of using Yaz were also discovered, leading to certain off-label uses. These off-label uses included prescriptions for the treatment of the symptoms of acne as well as the symptoms associated with premenstrual dysphoric disorder, otherwise known as PMDD.

Dangerous Yaz Side Effect Injuries Represented by Attorneys

Unfortunately, it wasn’t long before troubling reports of Yaz side effects began to surface. These side effects were and are extremely dangerous, and examples of them include:

While heart attacks, strokes and kidney damage are largely self-explanatory, the two least known Yaz side effects are not only extremely dangerous but are also related. DVT is a condition whereby blood clots form deep inside the body tissue, most commonly in the legs. When a blood clot grows to a certain point, it can dislodge and travel through the circulatory system and eventually settle in the lungs. When blood clots either form or appear in the lungs, they are known as pulmonary embolisms. If these conditions are not diagnosed quickly, each of them can ultimately lead to the death of the patient.

FDA and Government Reaction to Yaz Side Effects

To this point, no official action has been taken by the government in response to the reports of Yaz side effects, including reports of deaths. However, Yaz has had its share of dealings with the government in a negative manner, but these dealings centered on a controversial advertising campaign that promoted Yaz.

These advertisements that ran on television not only made potentially problematic claims that Yaz was proven to be safer than it actually was, but there were also indirect hints that Yaz could be used to treat the symptoms of PMS. In response to these advertisements, the FDA and more than two dozen Attorneys General of different states sent a warning letter to Bayer Healthcare in regards to these advertisements. The ads were pulled from the air and Bayer pledged approximately $20 million to run corrective ads in response to these warnings.

Yaz Side Effects Lawyers – How to File a Lawsuit Against Yaz Manufacturer

Given the absence of official action by the government in response to the reports of Yaz side effects, individual patients who had suffered were left to pursue their own remedies by way of civil lawsuits. Several Yaz lawsuits have been filed around the country seeking damages for the injuries suffered as a result of Yaz side effects, and many more claims are expected.
