At Phillips Law Firm, we believe that the real strength of any community lies in how it supports its youth. That’s why we recently had the privilege of supporting a local Somali youth soccer program, a partnership that reflects our ongoing commitment to community involvement.
This initiative gave us the opportunity to contribute to something much larger than a game. It was about empowering the next generation, promoting cultural pride, and creating lasting connections across our community. We were honored to sponsor the team, attend their community event, and witness firsthand the impact of positive mentorship.
Why Youth Sports Are a Vital Part of Community Involvement
Youth sports play a powerful role in building healthy, engaged communities. Beyond physical activity, teams like this one offer children a sense of belonging, structure, and emotional support. Programs focused on inclusion and leadership help young people develop confidence, resilience, and purpose—skills that extend well beyond the soccer field.
We were introduced to this particular program through a local doctor who is actively involved in supporting the Somali community. After meeting the kids and coaches, it quickly became clear that this was a group we wanted to stand behind. Their passion, joy, and discipline were contagious, and their goals aligned closely with our values.

What Our Sponsorship Helped Provide
As part of our contribution, we helped fund critical resources for the program:
- Uniforms and gear: Players received proper equipment and team apparel, which built unity and professionalism.
- Field rentals: Reliable space to train and compete created consistency and safety for all teams.
- Transportation assistance: Helping players travel to games removed a common barrier to participation.
- Workshops and mentorship: The team organized group sessions focused on leadership, teamwork, and life skills.
We were proud to hear that the support also enabled the group to hire an additional coach—an important step in expanding access for more youth.
Currently, the program includes around 10 teams with 100 players, ranging in age from 7 to 17. With more kids on a waitlist, the demand is clear, and the impact is real.
A Powerful Weekend of Celebration and Culture
From June 26 to 29, we attended a community event at a local high school where the team came together with their families, supporters, and local leaders. The atmosphere was electric. Games were played, meals were shared, and cultural pride was on full display.
During the event, we connected with parents and young players, shared legal resources, and celebrated the team’s accomplishments. It was a strong reminder of what makes our communities thrive: inclusion, compassion, and shared goals.
Moments like these bring home why community involvement is not just a value we talk about—it’s something we actively practice.

Building Confidence and Pride Beyond the Field
The Somali youth soccer program is about much more than winning matches. The team’s leadership is deeply committed to creating an environment where young people can learn discipline, make lasting friendships, and find confidence in their cultural identity.
One coach shared how the players have started stepping up as role models, helping younger teammates and even volunteering at community clean-up days. That kind of leadership development is exactly why programs like this matter.

Our Commitment to Community Involvement in Washington
At Phillips Law Firm, we believe legal work and community involvement go hand in hand. We don’t just work in Washington—we live in these neighborhoods, volunteer with local organizations, and stay connected to the people we serve.
Why We Show Up for Local Communities
We see it as our responsibility to support programs that build safer, stronger communities from the ground up. Whether it’s sponsoring a youth soccer team, showing up to a school event, or offering guidance to families who need resources, we’re committed to staying involved—not just as legal advocates, but as neighbors and partners in progress.
Examples of Community Work Across Washington
Over the years, our team has supported local groups such as Northwest Harvest and Operation Nightwatch. We’ve participated in food drives, hosted school supply collections, and volunteered our time to help address food insecurity and homelessness. Cities like Seattle, Renton, Woodinville, and Tacoma have always been part of our story.
What This Partnership Represents
The Somali youth soccer program is just one example of what matters to us. This recent event reminded us that when we show up for each other, we build more than community—we build connection and purpose.
